What
is the Saturday Enrichment Program (SEP)?
|
| SEP at Northwestern University's Center for Talent Development (CTD)
offers enriching and challenging courses for academically talented
PreK-9th grade students in Evanston and Glen Ellyn. SEP supplements
regular school curricula and explores areas of science, mathematics,
and humanities at a pace and in a setting compatible with students'
abilities. The academically challenging courses are designed to promote
interdisciplinary study, focus learning around key concepts, and foster
the development of independent learning strategies. |

|
| An orientation session for SEP parents is held on the first day
of each session. Parents are notified of the time and location prior
to the first day of class. CTD also offers parent seminars on topics
related to giftedness and parenting gifted children. CTD's parent
seminars are designed to provide parents with information from recognized
experts on issues related to gifted students, optimal child development,
and family functioning. Speakers are talented psychologists, teachers,
administrators, CTD staff, and others. Seminars usually begin at 9:30am

Courses
for High School Credit
|
|
SEP offers courses for high school credit. The course material
regularly covered in a one or two semester high school honors level
course is delivered in three SEP sessions. During the
2008-2009 academic year, four courses are being offered for high school credit:
Students successfully completing three consecutive sessions of
a given course are eligible for full credit equivalent to one or
two semesters of a high school honors course. Integrated Science Honors, Persuasion & Debate Honors, and Creative Writing Honors may be started in any session, but credit
will only be granted to students who enroll in three consecutive
sessions. Students who begin Latin I Honors in the fall session must continue
in the winter and spring sessions to earn credit.
North Central Accreditation
The Center for Talent Development is accredited
by the North Central Association
of Colleges and Schools as a "Special Function School."
High school credit will be granted to those successfully completing
the three-course cycle. The acceptance of those credits at the student's
school depends on that school's own institutional policy about the
recognition of credit from outside schools. We recommend that you
discuss this issue with your school counselor or administrator before
beginning the course. Go to Benefits
and Accreditation for more information.
