Academic talent search is a research-based way of creating optimal learning environments for advanced learners. It consists of diagnostic testing, using off- or above-level tests, and prescriptive instruction. Above-grade-level assessments and the data gathered from them ensure educators have the tools necessary to help students reach their full potential. CTD's above level offerings include: CogAT (for grades 2-9) and tests that mimic the format and content of the PreACT® and PSAT® (for grades 4-6) or ACT® and SAT® (for grades 7-9). These above-grade-level tests provide a more nuanced profile of advanced students’ learning needs. When these assessments are given above-grade-level to high-achieving students, they reveal the type of content students are ready to learn and their readiness for acceleration. This information allows educators to differentiate instruction to the appropriate level and make well-informed decisions about programs and services. CTD also provides growth indicators and a normative comparison to other high-achieving students who have participated in academic talent search through CTD.
