Gaming and Social Good

by Lindsey Wallem RNA Game Lets Players Help Find a Biological Prize Do you have a gamer in your family? I may not be a parent, but I do have a software engineering boyfriend who enjoys a challenge, as well as a good video game. When I sent him the link to the above article, he was challenged not to start trying to solve the problem. It's a new and interesting intersection, a luxury that the new social web is affording us: the ability not just to share and spread information, but to use social connections to solve problems collectively and even conduct research. It's an exciting thought that the gifted children of today will tomorrow be using tools yet unheard of. Where do you see this kind of democratic technology being used in the future? Encourage your child to try the game (or perhaps you will want to), and then let us know what you think of it! Lindsey Wallem helps to promote CTD's programming through new media efforts, including Facebook, Twitter, and other platforms on the social web. She believes in the power of the Internet as force of good.
